Donald Trump, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) have managed to kill off much of the Grand Old Party (GOP). The Republican-heavy legislative body has managed to dance a twisted tango of self-serving greed and power grabs in step with the president. This U.S. congressman, though, has had enough.
Co-founder and editor of The Hill Reporter, Ed Krassenstein tweeted out that former Representative David Jolly (R-FL) just went AWOL from the GOP:
‘BREAKING: Former GOP US Congressman David Jolly has just announced that he has quit the Republican party. Another intelligent man realizing that his party is no longer the party that he has so long been a member of. The GOP is collapsing one by one. Get out while you can!’
The former representative said that the party needed a “hard reset.” In addition, Jolly surprisingly said in early August that he hopes the GOP loses in the upcoming midterm election, according to Yahoo News.
Speaking before a University of South Florida in April, Jolly offered his take on climate change. The Palm Beach Times reported that he said:
‘I’m going to tell you something you rarely hear a member of Congress say. I think the climate’s changing. I think man’s had an impact, and we need to stop arguing about the science.’
Then, Jolly went on to address the party’s “large problems:”
‘I’m sick and tired of going nowhere in addressing large problems, and I’d like to see our party accept the science and say we believe in conservative solutions.’
