Powerful Republican PAC Announces Endorsements & Trump’s Gonna Freak

Donald Trump has said repeatedly at rallies and during conversations with reporters that the 2018 midterm elections will be all about the scandal that was the Brett Kavanaugh nomination. He has no idea how right he may be.

Even Republican women are disgusted by Trump’s outward displays of misogyny and his nomination of an alleged attempted rapist to the Supreme Court. They’re so disgusted, in fact, that they’re backing women candidates across party lines rather than men who support Trump from their own party.

Meghan Milloy, co-founder of Republican Women for Progress, told the Metro Times:

‘During the confirmation hearings, we were getting messages left and right from women we’d never spoken to before, women asking how they can help. We saw a big spike in donations to the PAC — and if anything good came out of that confirmation, it’s that we can run more ads for these anti-Trump candidates.’

Trump is convinced that he galvanizes his base by mocking a woman who reported sexual assault against his SCOTUS nominee at his rallies the same way he did when he mocked the women who had accused him. Although some candidates in the GOP saw a boost in their ratings that pollsters called the “Kavanaugh bump” after the confirmation, a lot of female supporters are also walking away.

On behalf of the PAC, Milloy said:

‘We think the best thing that we can do for the party and for the country right now is to make sure there are good women — Democrat or Republican — that are elected to office and who can serve as a check on this administration and on the president. [This effort] really was inspired by us talking to Republican women in these districts where they said there was just no way that they could vote for the Republican.’

Milloy also explained that their opposition to Trump and some of the candidates who support him isn’t all about his sexist remarks or his treatment of Kavanaugh’s accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. There is also widespread Republican support for policies that Republican women are finding it harder to back, like the treatment of undocumented immigrants, health care, and access to family planning services.

Trump may have gotten his SCOTUS nominee, and he may get the laughs he wants from his rabid fanbase at rallies, but he may also be losing Republican’s women support for their party, and that’s liable to last long after Trump’s term is over.
