In early September, Mr. Trump sat down for an interview with The Daily Caller, continuing his barrage of lies and “fake news.” He described Mueller’s probe as an “illegal investigation,” and continued his attacks on the media saying “large segments of the media are corrupt.”
One of the largest lies he concocted during the interview was that Special Counsel Mueller is James Comey’s best friend and that he could provide “100 pictures of him and Comey hugging and kissing each other.” The FBI took on the challenge of locating them, and it was reported on Tuesday that they are unable to find them.
A response to the FBI’s FOIA request was posted on Twitter.

The FBI noted the fact that there are three categories of law enforcement and national security records protected from the FOIA requests. The document said that the disclosure “should not be taken as an indication that excluded records do, or do not, exist.”
Comey was even humored by the situation. After hearing the FBI’s response, he tweeted:
‘My wife is so relieved.’

The response from the Justice Department was dated on Oct. 17, 2018, which is six weeks after Trump’s September 4 interview with The Daily Caller when he claimed that Mueller and Comey are “best friend (s)” Trump told The Daily Caller:
‘You know, he’s Comey’s best friend. How can you possibly have a man who is that, and then somebody from his law firm came out and said, “I can’t believe they picked Mueller. He hates the president. He hates the president.” So that’s four things, that’s four, then you have the conflicts of the people — you know I call them the 17 angry Democrats, I guess they’re being lowered down now. It’s incredible when you look at Weissman and all these people. Some of the people work for the Hillary Clinton foundation. It’s an incredible thing. Honestly, people are very angry about it. People that love our country are very angry about it. So, I consider it to be an illegal investigation. It should’ve never been allowed to have happened.’
Trump also railed on NBC during the September 4 interview, saying:
‘No, but I know you have to get licensed, and I can tell you that CNN — that ABC, most of them, but that NBC is very dishonest in its reporting of me. Very dishonest in its reporting of me. So, if they’re dishonest of me, now I think they’re more dishonest of me than they would be of most people because most people they don’t care about, but they are very dishonest.’
What is dangerous is that Trump’s loyal supporters believe every word he says no matter how ridiculous or outlandish it sounds to the average person. He knows people will believe his lies and that his fabrications will likely win the GOP and the POTUS himself some votes. It is not surprising that the president’s falsehoods are only getting worse in the days leading up to the midterm elections.
Comey and Mueller did having a working relationship back in the early 2000’s when they worked together for the Justice Department. However, there is no evidence supporting the assertion that they are “best friends” or that their relationship influenced Mueller’s investigation in any way.
