BREAKING: Active Shooter Hits Synagogue, 8 People Confirmed Dead


News outlets around the country are reporting on an active shooter situation in Pittsburgh at the Tree of Life Synagogue. Police are asking that everyone in the area of 5898 Wilkins Avenue stay inside their homes. Multiple casualties have been reported by Newsweek:

“Police and emergency services are responding to an active shooter at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, officials say. There are reports of multiple victims.”

“The incident began just after 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday when officers received reports of a shooting at the synagogue, which is located at 5898 Wilkins Avenue. Police have requested that residents stay inside their homes.”

At least eight people have been reported deceased, and two police officers were also shot by the suspect. Police fear that there are more fatalities still unaccounted for.

CBS is reporting that:

“The Synagogue was reportedly full of people for a Saturday service and police say they’ve received several calls from people barricaded inside the Synagogue. Several people have been rescued, but police are still trying to rescue others.”

“Nearby Carnegie Mellon University was also reportedly on lockdown, students receiving texts telling them to stay inside. Mayor Bill Peduto is rushing to the scene.”
