Racist White Lady Harassing Black Women On Camera Hit With Internet Justice

Another day, another racist. The United States continues to suffer under the burden of the racism that wasn’t unleashed by President Donald Trump but has certainly been exacerbated by his rise. This week in Charlotte, North Carolina, a seemingly drunk — or high — white woman who has since been identified was caught on camera harassing a group of black women who were outside the apartment complex that at least one of them lived at. The woman — named Susan Westwood, according to some Twitter users who took it upon themselves to look her up — slurred to the women over and over about how she’s white, “hot,” and has — or at least had — a job supposedly earning her $125,000 a year.

The videos of the interaction available online feature the unnamed targets of her racist rant begging her to just leave them alone while she just stammers on and on, staggering around the parking lot in the middle of her ranting.

The incident comes as one of many where black Americans have been threatened simply for existing where white Americans didn’t want them to.

In perhaps the most infamous recent example of this, a since fired Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, shot and killed a black man named Botham Jean in his own home because she supposedly thought it was her own. A whole host of conflicting narratives emerged in the aftermath of the incident, including question over whether Guyger simply stumbled into the wrong apartment because a door was open or — for some reason — demanded she be let in to an apartment that wasn’t hers.

One thing does remain clear though at present — Botham Jean is dead. The racism that the unnamed black women encountered late one night recently in North Carolina can easily turn deadly.

Hatred for minorities turned deadly just this week when a man claimed to have been shouting anti-Semitic commentary attacked a synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing a number of people. The shooting rattled the nation, attracting sympathy from as far away as Israel — while others like the assailant continue to roam the streets.

Trump’s role in pushing them to action can not be ignored. He’s cast plenty of members of minorities as verifiable threats to ways of life in the United States when they most certainly aren’t. Still, along those lines, he’s sought to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., and has entertained proposals including a complete block of those seeking to claim asylum in the U.S. at its southern border. He’s claimed there to be essentially an invasion of the U.S. underway via immigrants coming over the border — when in fact, the number of border crossings has decreased substantially over the years and the immigrants who are coming aren’t just bringing crime.

That won’t stop Trump, though, and it won’t stop people like Susan Westwood either. Members of minority communities in the United States continue to face an ongoing, ever present threat from people like them, while public outrage continues to amplify — and just might culminate in a blue wave of Democratic electoral victories in less than a couple weeks when the midterm elections conclude.
