On Tuesday, Mike Pence exploited the victims of the Pittsburgh Synagogue massacre in the most despicable way possible. He used them for political purposes, and it came back to bite him! Hard!
At a rally for a Michigan congressional candidate, Pence invited a so-called “Rabbi” to the stage to lead a prayer for the people of Pittsburgh and especially the victims and family members of those lost in the synagogue shooting on Saturday. The only problem with that? Jacobs invoked Jesus Christ into his so-called prayer. It’s just like Pence to invite a self-proclaimed “Christian Rabbi” to his party.
As it turns out, Pence didn’t do his research very well about the man he invited to help put on his little show, because the “Rabbi,” Loren Jacobs, wasn’t actually a Rabbi at all! He’s a fraud and had been stripped of his rabbinic ordination in 2003 after being found guilty of libel.
In an email written to NBC News, Monique Brumbach, a spokeswoman for the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations said:
‘Jacobs was stripped of his rabbinic ordination by the UMJC in 2003, after our judicial board found him guilty of libel.’
Brumbach didn’t go into detail about what the libel charges were, but NBC reported that it could be because Jacobs had been involved in theological disputes with other members of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations.
Rabbi Marla Hornsten, past president of the Michigan Board of Rabbis, told NBC News:
‘We don’t even recognize him as a rabbi. Even to call him a rabbi is offensive.”
The Messianic Order is a group that believes Jesus is the son of God, so obviously, the choice to pick Loren Jacobs, to begin with, would have angered the Jewish community even if he had been a Rabbi, but the fact that he wasn’t made it even worse. Pence came off looking just like his boss — an inflammatory, antisemitic pig.
It’s not surprising that the Jewish community is angry. The person who calls himself their president and who has pledged to protect them caused this horrific tragedy by inciting violence among his base, and now we have the so-called Vice President refusing to acknowledge the Jewish people properly by inviting a fake Rabbi to a rally? Just disgusting.
