Trump’s reaction to CNN’s Jim Acosta during a Wednesday press conference shouldn’t have been surprising. However, he never fails to sink lower proving just how woefully inept and unqualified he is as a president.
Specifically, Trump responded to Acosta’s question about his reference to the migrant caravan in Central America as an “invasion” by personally insulting Acosta. Trump said this:
‘CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN.’
Being a journalist means asking tough questions that no one enjoys answering. If anything, Acosta proves daily he’s more than qualified and is a shining example of what a journalist should be.
CNN responded quickly after the personal attacks and harshly criticized the president. CNN took to Twitter and issued this response:
‘This President’s ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far. They are not only dangerous, they are disturbingly un-American. While President Trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press, he has a sworn obligation to protect it. A free press is vital to democracy, and we stand behind Jim Acosta and his fellow journalists everywhere.’
Trump’s harsh treatment of the press and Democratic officials have been blamed for the recent mailing of several pipe bombs to leading figures in the Democratic party and to the CNN building.
Trump’s rhetoric and treatment of the press are dangerous, no matter what he may try to say. The response on Twitter to CNN’s own response shows just how dangerous Trump’s rhetoric can be and how it inspires his base.
