After one brief moment of what felt like humility from the U.S. president after he chose to criticize and threaten California with a loss of federal funds as 23 American citizens lie dead, Trump was right back to his ridiculous disinformation campaign.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and even Guns ‘n’ Roses frontman Axl Rose sounded more informed about the California wildfires than the president. They tried to explain, but their words will surely fall on deaf ears since Trump is in many ways directly responsible for the death and devastation.

Trump had multiple warnings that cutting funding for volunteer firefighters and fire science research. New York’s Daily News said in July 2017, as a previous fire raged across the state of California:

‘California is burning — and President Trump is cutting the firehoses.

‘As smokeaters in the Golden State are battling 14 major wildfires, Congress is debating a White House proposal to cut $300 million from the U.S. Forest Service’s wildfire fighting initiatives and $50 million from its wildfire prevention efforts — all on top of a 23% reduction of federal funding for volunteer fire departments around the nation.’

Mother Jones warned just three months ago that Trump’s defunding of the Joint Fire Science Program would make conditions even more dangerous:

‘The Trump administration has offered no reason for targeting the Joint Fire Science Program. It’s among dozens of areas the White House has proposed slashing or eliminating science funding.

‘As in the White House’s 2018 budget request, only the Pentagon, Department of Veterans Affairs and NASA would get increased research funding in 2019.’

Of course, political analysts warned of the dangers of a Trump presidency in 2016, as well. No one listened then, either.

Twitter had lots to say about Trump’s return to threats and accusations before the bodies have even been buried in California. See some of their responses below:
