Donald Trump wants praise and approval from mainstream news media outlets even while he lashes out and calls them “fake news.” On Saturday, he lashed out once again when The New York Times reported a story that made him look paranoid and foolish.
Trump was responding to a story that questioned his relationship with Vice President Mike Pence, reporting that Trump wasn’t even sure that Pence would want to run with him again in 2020. Additionally, Trump seems nervous about Pence sticking by his side through the upcoming investigations he’s sure to face.
‘In recent weeks, with his electoral prospects two years from now much on his mind, Mr. Trump has focused on the person who has most publicly tethered his fortunes to him. In one conversation after another he has asked aides and advisers a pointed question: Is Mike Pence loyal?’
The publication cited “Trump advisers, primarily outside the White House,” and earlier stories indicate that Trump often calls friends for advice at night. The paper does not invent sources and has no reason to make up stories. Trump provides plenty of fodder all on his own.
The relationship between Trump and Pence has not always been on solid ground. Trump has joked that Pence wants LGBTQ citizens dead, and an op-ed from someone inside the White House who said that a resistance had formed to stop Trump’s worst inclinations has him increasingly paranoid. His insulting style is sure to lose him even his most loyal supporters at some point.
Twitter was amused that anyone would call Trump for a quote since he almost never tells the truth. Read some of their comments below:
