Since the brutal torture and death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Donald Trump has repeatedly let the leaders of other countries know that America’s values can be bought and sold. In exchange for cheap gas, Trump’s America will happily hand over their protection of human rights. Trump calls that putting “America first,” but selling out our humanity feels more like Trump first.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) echoed that sentiment on Twitter, letting Trump know that the world is watching him and decent Americans won’t stand for his outrageous actions.
‘Hey @realdonaldtrump: being Saudi Arabia’s bitch is not “America First.”‘
Despite CIA reports that conclude that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is believed to have known about and even ordered the killing of Khashoggi, Trump has continued to insist that no one can know for certain what happened, once again taking the side of a foreign dictator over his own intelligence agencies. Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are outraged, demanding an investigation into Khashoggi’s death and Mohammed bin Salman’s role in it.
Calling Trump’s statements defending the Saudi prince a “press release for Saudi Arabia,” Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) helped write the order to investigate.
‘It is a delicate situation when we have a longtime ally that we’ve had for decades, but we have a crown prince that I believe ordered the killing of a journalist.’
It wouldn’t be the first time Trump has ignored human rights abuses, but it may be the first time that politicians have been unified in their condemnation of him.
