Melania Trump’s choice of outfits has made bigger headlines than literally anything else she has ever done. She is known for her fashion sense, making it that much more obvious that she is fully aware of what she is wearing and how is will come off to the public. Like that time she wore a jacket that said “I really don’t care, do you?” when visiting the child internment camps her husband set up at the border. Then there’s the time she wore the pith helmet on a recent trip to Africa. The hat is a symbol of European colonialism, a movement that led to the deaths of millions of Africans.
Now, she has done it again. While vacationing at Mar-a-Lago in Palm beach, Florida Thanksgiving weekend, Melania wore a dress by designer Dolce & Gabbana, who is currently under fire for a racist ad they released. According to Palm Beach Daily News:
“Although it is not known if Melania, a former fashion model, was aware of the uproar, D&G cancelled a fashion show in Shanghai after outraged models and celebrities threatened to boycott the event. The line was dropped by Hong Kong’s largest luxury department store and some e-commerce sites. The Central Committee of the Communist Youth League demanded designer “respect Chinese people” as the basic principle of foreign enterprises investing in China, according to the South China Morning Post.”
The ad released by Dolce & Gabbana featured an Asian woman attempting to eat pepperoni pizza with chopsticks, highlighting what the Asian community is calling outdated racial stereotypes.
The first lady’s antics are not lost on anyone with a normal thinking brain. To Melania Trump, life is one big game of dress-up, and that is seemingly the thing she puts her best efforts into. Good luck, America.
