On Friday, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told an interviewer that Trump does not like to read or try to understand details. On Saturday, Trump proved him right with some ridiculous tweets about the Paris Agreement and the protests in France.
To be absolutely clear: 1) the Paris Agreement has nothing to do with France. It was simply signed in Paris, and; 2) the protests in France have absolutely nothing to do with the Paris Agreement, and; 3) nobody is shouting “we want Trump.” The responses to Trump’s lie from people in France disproved that instantly.
The idea that there was a “European Military” during either WWI or WWII is also absurd and ignorant. WWI was fought between two separate groups: the Allies included Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. They fought against Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. European countries, therefore, were at war between themselves and the foreign countries that came to their aid.
WWII was fought between Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China and the United States of America against Germany, Italy and Japan. Once again, these were European countries at war between themselves with foreign countries that stood beside each side. A simple history lesson would do Trump some good, but as Tillerson noted, Trump doesn’t like to read.
Most importantly, NATO does not exist to solely protect Europe. It also protects the United States by agreeing that the other countries involved will always come to our aid in war. In fact, they have done so many times, and that continues today.
Twitter was quick to remind Trump just how ignorant he is and French citizens let Trump know that he is lying about the protests there. Read some of their comments below:
