First Lady Melania Trump doesn’t appear in public often, but when she does, she lets on just how at home she really is among the rest of the Trumps. Her husband — President Donald Trump — routinely derides the media as devilish and to use his words, the enemy of the people, and while she may not be quite as harsh, she backs him up.

During a sit-down with Fox News host Sean Hannity that aired this week, she claimed that the hardest challenge she faces as First Lady of the United States is journalists, comedians, and the like who are using her family’s name to advance themselves.

Pressed for her biggest hurdle, she commented:

‘I would say the opportunists who are using my name or my family name to advance themselves, from comedians to journalists to performers, book writers… The problem is they’re writing the history and it’s not correct. They like to focus on the gossip and I would like to… focus on the substance, and what we do, not just about nonsense… I know I will get the criticism from the public or from the media but I will do what is right and what I feel is right for the country and for the people.

Watch below.

Journalists who report the news aren’t just using the Trump name to advance themselves — reporting is their job. It’s true that at times, some people lie, but the vast majority of mainstream media reports categorically do not feature the “fake news” that Trump and his allies claim.

In fact, with the thousands and thousands of documented lies her husband has pushed on the world, Donald Trump is as guilty of recording incorrect history as anything else. He’s the one relentlessly pushing the “nonsense” — just check his Twitter feed for his incessant cyberbullying he carries on with while the president of the United States.

And yet, Melania sticks to the uniquely Trump-ian line that while sitting atop the world — or close — we should all feel sorry for the Trump family, no matter what lies they’ve told or crimes they’ve committed. Her complaints call to mind her husband’s administration’s repeated claims the mainstream media is suppressing positive stories (they’re not).

Melania has expressed similar sentiments in the past, having claimed at one point that she thinks of herself as among the most bullied people in the world, which she cited as motivation for starting her “Be Best” anti-cyberbullying initiative that hasn’t really gone anywhere.

Through both of those respective television appearances, she’s glossed over the many millions of people who her husband’s administration has bullied and then some. President Trump, for instance, continues to push the claim that immigrants to the United States pose an inherent threat, citing reasons as wide ranging as supposed disease and crime — neither of which are present like he says.

Some have claimed at times that Melania is out of place and even perhaps wants to divorce the president, but the more she makes herself known the less likely that seems.
