President Obama is really good at getting under Republican skin without doing anything but continue to be the nation’s first black president, and beloved by millions. Now, he has one more reason to be hated by conservatives, and this one has liberals cheering.
Obama just received the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope award. Associated Press reports that “Former President Barack Obama was honored with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award at a gala in midtown Manhattan Wednesday evening.”
Obama said this while accepting the award:
“I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I’ve been on this hope kick for a while now. Even ran a couple of campaigns on it. Thank you for officially validating my hope credentials. If we summon our best selves, we can inspire others to do the same. It’s easy to succumb to cynicism, the notion that hope is a fool’s game.”
Obama then takes a swipe at Trump.
“When our leaders are content on making up whatever facts they want, a lot of people have begun to doubt the notion of common ground. Bobby Kennedy’s life reminds us to reject such cynicism.”
According to the organization’s president, Kerry Kennedy, the award is only granted to people “who have demonstrated a commitment to social change.”
Below is a video of Obama presenting the award in 2009, right after he became president:
This has Republican heads rolling big time, especially Obama’s biggest critic, Donald Trump, who is currently melting down on Twitter over the 3-year sentence Mueller just gave Michael Cohen. Odds are, if Trump weren’t so wrapped up in his own looming federal prison sentence, he would be focused on the fact that he himself was not nominated for Obama’s award.
Trump tweeted the following this morning:
People were less than pleased with his latest tirade. Check out a few of the responses he got the the tweets below:
