There are waves of desperation emanating from the White House these days as multiple criminal investigations pile up against Trump and his family, businesses, and associates. Trump is scrambling to redirect attention anywhere but on him, so he’s resorting to pushing scandals once again that have already been debunked.
The “missing” texts were discovered by the DOJ watchdog organization that investigates such matters. Right-wing media has had a field day with it for a few days while cherry-picking facts and ignoring the parts of the report that they don’t want to discuss, such as this one, which POLITICO turned up well before the right got ahold of the story:
‘[The watchdog group] did not attribute the missing texts to malicious intent on behalf of the two but rather a technology failure by the FBI’s tool meant to sweep up text messages, according to a new report…The gap in texts recovered from the pair’s phones coincided with a technical failure by an automated collection application that Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd said at the time was due to “misconfiguration issues related to rollouts, provisioning, and software upgrades that conflicted with the FBl’s collection capabilities.”’
Trump is still trying to deflect from the investigation into the alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russian government operatives, which Strzok helped to investigate. Texts between Strzok and Page showed that they truly did not want Trump to get elected and the right has used this to insist that the Mueller investigation is biased. They always ignore one pressing question that they should be asking, though.
Why is it that the man who was both an expert on Russian government operations and cyberwarfare, a man who had already seen the evidence involved in this investigation prior to the election, so terrified of Trump becoming the president?
