Donald Trump is finally coming to the realization that he, his family, his business, his campaign team, and his entire administration is in serious trouble. With the threat of lawsuits and criminal charges hanging over the heads of many of those close to him as well as his own, it’s becoming more important than ever that he controls the narrative. That’s not going to happen.
It’s a familiar narrative at this point. Nothing Trump does is wrong. If it is wrong, it’s not important. If it’s really, badly, criminally wrong, Clinton and Obama did worse. It’s the same old tactic, just a different day.
This is a man who has told more than 5,000 lies (and counting) since the day he took office. Repeatedly, he has deflected from criticism by spinning stories that have no basis in fact. He hasn’t kept good on his promise to “build a wall and make Mexico pay for it”? Sure, he has, there’s an invisible wall and the newly revised NAFTA will get the money from Mexico. Family separation? That was an Obama-era policy that he had no choice but to use.
None of this is true, and it angers Trump greatly that the press isn’t buying it and reports that it’s false.
He won’t be able to spin the narrative on Russia, or instructing his own lawyer to commit felony campaign finance violations, or the misappropriation of inaugural funds. He won’t be able to spin his own impeachment, nor the many investigations into his business and his children, and no matter how much he wants them to, these stories will not go away.
