It’s no secret that President Donald Trump has proven hellbent on overturning every relic of the Obama era, no matter what the cost. To that end, he’s kept up the GOP aim to overturn the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare, despite the fact that it’s provided health coverage to millions upon millions of people. This Monday morning, he ranted against the law days after a Texas judge declared the entire thing illegal.
That decision has not voided the law considering both the ensuing appeal process and the absence of an injunction against it in the judge’s ruling. Still, the president insisted in the meantime:
‘The DEDUCTIBLE which comes with ObamaCare is so high that it is practically not even useable! Hurts families badly. We have a chance, working with the Democrats, to deliver great HealthCare! A confirming Supreme Court Decision will lead to GREAT HealthCare results for Americans!’
He’s counting, then, on the Supreme Court which he’s packed with conservatives to give his administration the health care policy victory they’ve failed to achieve thus far, although it’s important to note that there remains some path to traverse before the case gets there.
In the meantime, the president is relying on mischaracterization and ignorance of the facts of the situation — although that’s never stopped him in the past.
Although it’s true that some ObamaCare plans have high costs, many enrollees benefit from subsidies, and where those don’t cover people who have been left hanging, Democrats have expressed openness to working to make the health care system better — but Trump just wants to throw the entire thing out.
The administration has failed to do anything but send the current health care system out onto ever thinner ice for the past two years and yet Trump wants us to trust him anyway.
