Under the Trump presidency, a question has arisen that no one may have ever considered before: is it possible to obstruct justice openly on social media? Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, insists that it isn’t. However, it’s likely the Special Counsel Robert Mueller has kept a record of Trump’s tweets and so many of them appear to attempt to influence those witnesses involved in the investigation.
If anyone doubted that Trump has every intention of pardoning his former national intelligence advisor, Gen. Michael Flynn, the president erased all those doubts on Tuesday morning. As Flynn is set to be sentenced for the crime of lying to the FBI, Trump seems to be announcing to him that he will be pardoned for keeping his mouth shut and claiming undue pressure by the FBI.
However, Flynn has already tried this. A judge shot the claim down after hearing recordings of the FBI’s interviews with Flynn. He’s even tried to claim entrapment because no one told him that he shouldn’t lie during those interviews. Flynn is a long-time military man who knows the laws of this country and has chosen not to follow them.
Trump may very much change his tune regarding his defense of Flynn once the extent of the information he provided to Special Counsel Robert Mueller is revealed. After all, the prosecutors who are part of that investigation recommended no jail time for Flynn thanks to his significant help with the investigation.
