Imagine you’re sitting at home one day, minding your own business when President Donald Trump includes you in one of his infamous Twitter posts. That’s what happened to entertainment personality Megan Mullally this week then the president posted a clip from a spoof of Green Acres he participated in with her at the Emmys back in 2006.

The clip came shortly before he signed the latest Farm Bill, which this time around includes noteworthy provisions like the removal of hemp from the federal Controlled Substances Act, which essentially legalizes its cultivation across the entire United States.

Mullally responded simply:

‘omg… if you guys need me, i’ll be in a hole in the ground’

She’s perhaps best known for her starring role on the hit show Will & Grace, which was recently revived for NBC after a roughly ten year hiatus. The year she appeared on stage with Trump at the Emmys was actually the final year of the show’s original run, for which she won two Emmy Awards for “Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series” — including in 2006. (Her other came in 2000.)

Trump has his own long history with the entertainment world that has turned remarkably frigid since he took office and found that Hollywood wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of supporting a guy’s presidency who’s so willing to pander to the absolute worst inclinations to be found among Americans for the sake of attention and a few votes. As Hollywood reckons alongside the rest of America with issues of inclusion and protection of all people and beyond, Trump sits in the White House credibly accused of sexual assault by numerous women and continuing to push agenda items including a wall along the country’s entire border with Mexico.

In other words, there’s definitely quite a difference between the Trump administration and the direction the country, including Hollywood, is going. Trump has faced routine criticism from entertainment personalities, and he’s lashed out in return — since that’s what U.S. presidents do these days apparently.

It’s a tradition he’s carried on with since before even assuming the presidency. As Vulture notes, he’s dismissed the Emmys as  “awful,” “dishonest,” “a total joke,”“terrible,” and “horrendous.”

In the time since taking office, he’s harbored high profile animosity towards entertainment world icons like Robert De Niro and Saturday Night Live, suggesting the latter should be taken off the air because he didn’t like it.

That’s the level of inane pettiness we’re dealing with here, and there’s hardly an indication it’ll stop anytime soon. He’s carried on with his obsession with entertainment throughout his presidency, throwing out repeated references to everything from his old reality show The Apprentice to the size of the crowds that gather for his events.

Yet, he wants us to take him seriously anyway and stomps his feet about fake news when he doesn’t get his way and the country and world don’t fall at his feet.

The magnitude of the president’s nonsense performance right there should be eligible for some kind of award.
