Republicans and Democrats are shocked that Donald Trump is pulling out of Syria. Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) promised his voters that he would leave after two terms, so he is, but said he wished he could serve next year. Corker just said that Trump’s action of pulling out of Syria precipitously was just an act. Yet, what was probably not an act was that Donald Trump truly does not know who Brett McGurk is — the head of his anti-ISIS campaign. Another senator issued a strong warning.
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) was stunned over Trump’s tweet. He said in his own tweet that “should scare the hell” out of Americans.
‘Uhhhh…you don’t know your own coordinator of the anti-ISIS campaign? Over the past 5 years, no one has done more to put ISIS on its heels than Brett. We all know and rely on him. The fact that our President has no clue who Brett is should scare the hell out of every American.’
Surprisingly, POTUS admitted that he had no idea who the man in charge of the ISIS campaign was. McGurk turned in his resignation in solidarity with Secretary of Defense James Mattis. Trump insulted the second man to leave over his ill-fated decision to pull out of Syria and abandon our allies, the Kurds, to certain death. The commander-in-chief tweeted that McGurk was just a “Grandstander:”
‘Brett McGurk, who I do not know, was appointed by President Obama in 2015. Was supposed to leave in February but he just resigned prior to leaving. Grandstander? The Fake News is making such a big deal about this nothing event!”
There is an excellent chance that Trump really did not know who this man was. Why? Because the president does not listen to his morning reports on the state of the nation. He does not learn. He does not ask questions. He does not care.
