Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) is eager to step into the job of chairing the House’s Select Committee on Intelligence on January 3, 2019. He is ready to take on everything crooked about Donald Trump, especially special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russia’s attack on our 2016 presidential election and the Trump administration’s conspiracy with Moscow.
Trump has stacked his Department of Justice with acting Attorney General (AG) and his Roy Cohen in one body — Matthew Whitaker. Then, POTUS put in his nominee for full-time attorney general William Barr, the guy who sent the president a 21-page paper resume condemning Mueller’s investigation.
Schiff has been seriously concerned about what would happen to Mueller’s report once it was completed. Traditionally, the special counsel turns the report over the the DOJ’s head, the attorney general. That would be Whitaker or Barr, should he make the cut.
The representative said on CNN’s and Jake Tapper’s State of the Union show that he would “do everything possible” to release the report:
‘I’m prepared to make sure we do everything possible so that the public has the advantage of as much of the information as it can.’
Schiff will not hesitate to use his subpoena power to get the Mueller report released, if necessary. Whittaker and Barr would be able to take the report and throw it into the trash can. They could also redact it until it made no sense.
The California representative said this report was “just too important” to keep Americans uninformed about it:
‘Now, there may be parts of the report that have to be redacted because they involved classified information or they involve grand jury material. This case is just too important to keep from the American people what it’s really about.’
There was no doubt about how concerned Schiff was over acting AG Whitaker refusing to step away from the Mueller investigation. The acting AG did confer with the DOJ’s ethics official.
What people just learned was that Whitaker’s comments about the Mueller probe on Fox News made the ethics official say the matter was too close to call. However, the air of impropriety indicated that he should step away from the investigation.
Whitaker chose to ignore the officials recommendation. Instead, he brought in a group of his buddies to decide. Surprise of surprises, they determined he should not recuse himself but stay on the job.
Schiff also expressed his concern over an issue involving POTUS and Whitaker. It appears that Trump gave the acting AG a taste of his ill temperament. The president of these United States berated him over the Southern District of New York case involving his former personal attorney and self-described fixer Michael Cohen. Trump wanted it stopped.
‘This is exactly what we feared about Whitaker’s appointment.’
The committee that Schiff will chair holds him responsible for oversight of the DOJ. The incoming chair said that he would look into each of Whitaker’s acts. Trump raged at the former attorney general Jeff Sessions for legally recusing himself and publicly humiliated him.
Schiff warned Whitaker and Trump:
‘We are going to scrutinize every single action by Matt Whitaker to make sure that the public knows just what he does.’
