House GOP Ends FBI/DOJ Investigation With A Resounding Thud

There has got to be a limit to how many investigations one congressional party can demand investigations of perceived wrongdoing that end with zero evidence supporting their call to investigate and no real wrongdoing uncovered.

Just as the Benghazi investigation, and Fast & Furious, and the IRS tax scam, and Clinton’s email investigation, and several more GOP-led investigations, lots of doubt was cast and conspiracies started, but no measurable evidence of bias against Trump in the Russia probe came from it before its end. In a letter to the acting attorney general, Matthew Whitaker, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said that the probe had been completed.

‘With the 115th Congress coming to a close, the investigation into decisions made by DOJ and FBI and related interviews conducted by the House Committee on the Judiciary and Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have, at least for the time being, been concluded.’

Without ever saying why, the committee urged the FBI and DOJ to review transcripts from interviews and release them with limited redactions.

‘Goodlatte urged Whitaker and Wray to review transcripts of interviews the committees conducted as part of the investigations and redact any classified information so they may be made available to the public. The GOP chairman added that the transcripts had been sent over earlier this month and had not been reviewed in a timely manner, saying the “delay” was “very troubling.”‘

One member of the House GOP Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), had to recuse himself from the Russia probe after it was revealed that he disclosed classified information regarding the investigation. The House GOP questioned the ethics and honesty of the two federal organizations without ever acknowledging that their own committees have had corrupt leadership.

‘Serious questions and concerns have been raised about the thoroughness and impartiality of these investigations…The ramifications of decisions made and not made, the bias of some agents and attorneys involved, and the seemingly disparate treatment these investigations received have continued to reverberate into 2017, 2018 and beyond.’

As a perfect end to the absurdities of this investigation, the House GOP tried to dress down these two institutions by giving them suggestions for rebuilding trust.

‘Confidence in venerable institutions like the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation must be restored so the public can trust these institutions to make decisions solely on the facts and the law and totally devoid of political bias or consideration.’

There are no suggestions included, however, on how the GOP can restore trust in their congressmen.
