Customs and Border Protection has been under investigation since the death of seven year-old Jakelin Caal who died in custody of CBP about two weeks ago. Caal did not receive medical care for 90 minutes after crossing the border when she was suffering from severe dehydration and became ill and was vomiting. Since then, a young eight year-old Guatemalan boy has also died in CBP custody.
On Saturday afternoon, Mr. Trump, our so-called bully of a president, dared to tweet about the deaths of these children chalking it up to the fault of Democrats who won’t give him the border wall he wants. He tweeted:
‘Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally. They can’t. If we had a Wall, they wouldn’t even try! The two…’
He followed this up by blaming young Jakelin’s father, saying:
‘The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn’t given her water in days.’
Some still need to let it sink in that the person issuing these tweets was elected president of the United States, and the recent treatment of children at the border should make anyone with a heart and some intelligence shudder. The situation is absolutely heartbreaking and there are going to be long-lasting ramifications for this country.
Twitter had strong words for Trump:
Trump and his administration are the most thoughtless and cruel in the history of this country. The United Nations needs to pounce on this.
