Donald Trump is going to have a very bad day. He does not like strong women, and incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is one of the strongest women in the country. She is third in line to the presidency. Yet, it is another Democratic representative from California who will turn Trump’s day sharply downward.

Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA) has decided to introduce articles of impeachment against the man currently sitting in the Oval Office as soon as Democrats take control of the House. Actually, he will be introducing a measure that he first introduced in 2017. The difference is that the Democratically led House will stand up to Trump, whereas, the Republicans led by a weak House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) just rolled over and played dead.

Sherman’s basis for impeaching the president was that when he fired former FBI Director James Comey, Trump committed obstruction of justice. There have been a number of other acts of obstructing justice since 45 took office in 2016. The president fired his former attorney general Jeff Sessions. Then, he put in Matthew Whittaker as acting AG, even though the man has a shady background.

The California representative said:

‘There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress. Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.’

Sherman’s articles of impeachment carry far more political weight now. POTUS had way too many friends on the Republican side of Congress who were willing to actively support whatever the president chose to do. There were also Republicans who did not particularly like Trump, such as Senate Leader Mitch McConnell. However, as long as the president made certain the leader obtained his conservative judges, McConnell left Trump alone to destroy public institution after public institution.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not be taking up impeachment until after special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is complete, if then. Mueller has been investigating Russia’s attack on the U.S. 2016 presidential election and conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Sherman claimed that he believes his act of filing articles of impeachment are the right thing to do:

‘Every member of the House will have to address (the issue) whether there are formal articles of impeachment pending.’

Pelosi appeared on PBS NewsHour and explained the reasons behind her decision. One is that any impeachment would have to be bipartisan, and the Republicans control the Senate, The LA Times reported:

‘The evidence would have to be so conclusive.’

As the Democrats peeled off the House from under Republican control, the incoming House Speaker Pelosi has worked to get the people she will lead to lay off of any impeachment speech. It would be possible that an early impeachment without the support of the Republicans might divide the more traditional Democrats from those who are more left-leaning.

Pelosi has great control of the House, so all talk of impeachment is probably going to fade into the background during this session of the House. Still, some of the more progressive Dems may win their stance. Things move quickly in Washington D.C., and change is complete before we can can even finish mentioning the word.
