Trump Makes Trip Announcement That Draws Backlash Immediately

Last year Donald Trump went to the U.S.’s southern border for a visit to see the prototypes of various walls at the Department of Homeland Security location close to San Diego. It was a great photo op. In fact, it was so good that the president has decided to go back again. This time he has something else up his sleeve.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that Trump saw the trip as an opportunity for him to highlight how important he believes his wall is. Thus far, POTUS has closed down a large portion of the government until he gets his wall. The master salesman will be pulling out all the stops on this trip to motivate people to support what would be a tribute to his presidency.

Sanders also said that Trump would “meet with those on the frontlines (of) the national security and humanitarian crisis” at the border between Mexico and the U.S. Although she had no other information about the president’s trip, she said more would follow soon.

Last year on his trip to the U.S.-Mexico border, Trump examined the tall wall samples various companies had provided for his inspection. Since then, he has changed his mind about how the wall should look.

When the president was in Iraq this past December, he first mentioned going on this trip:

“I’ll be going to Texas. We’re going to have a groundbreaking for the wall.’

Unless Congress passes a funding bill to open the parts of government that Trump closed down, his trip to the border will happen on the 20th shutdown day. That would be just one day less than the longest government shutdown, which occurred in late 1995.

He wants a steel barrier now. When the president first talked about the wall, he talked about a concrete wall with rebar, which is steel reinforcement within the concrete.

Last week House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) commented on the subject.. She said she will go around Trump by voting on individual spending bills. That way, the House can reopen various government agencies:

‘The senseless uncertainty and chaos of the Trump Shutdown must end now.’

Pelosi has held firm against the president’s wall, because if she gave in, Trump would just shut down the government as a manipulative tool to get whatever he wanted next time. The House Speaker said that she would not give him even one dollar for his wall. Speaker Pelosi has five children and nine grandchildren, which has been good training for this experience.

The Democratic leadership has accused 45 of creating the southwest border humanitarian tragedy just to get his wall.

That was when Trump pulled another trick from his sleeve. He said he would declare a national emergency. Then, he could go around the Congress to build his wall. However, that would be questionable both politically and legally.

Vice President Pence along with other top administration officials met with the staff of top Democratic leaders in an attempt to move each other off of their entrenched position. Nothing came of it.
