The man who once touted himself as one of the greatest negotiators of all time cannot seem to even act like an adult and get through a tough meeting on the government shutdown. Compromise is not part of his agenda, but a racist border wall continues to be.
Border security does not have to include a racist vanity project to build an unnecessary and ineffective wall at the southern border. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi both know this, because they’ve been in Congress awhile and know how to read.
Trump can continue spouting his lies on prime-time television, but it’s getting him nowhere. Government workers will continue to suffer for a shutdown Trump said on camera that he was “proud” to own, promising that he would “take the mantle.” It turns out that promise went the same way that his promise to “make Mexico pay for it” did.
The president does not have the support from Congress nor the support of the American people in shutting down the government, denying Americans paychecks and needed public services, to build his 25 billion dollar wall, no matter how many times he stamps his feet, storms out of meetings, or whines about how victimized he’s been. He’s not helping himself with this tantrum, a tantrum that’s already gone on for 17 days. He’s only hurting the American people, many of whom voted for him but won’t in 2020.
