If there’s anything that Donald Trump doesn’t understand about governing the country, it’s that he doesn’t understand anything about governing the country. With more of his fear-mongering tactics on full display, Trump began tweeting upon his return to the White House about the “invasion” at the southern border and how much better he understands it after less than two years in office than two members of Congress with a combined 58 years of experience between them.
There is no invasion at the southern border. Trump has been told repeatedly that illegal border crossings are at a 43-year low and were cut nearly in half during Obama’s presidency. Trump’s policies have been no more effective but far more harmful to migrant children and vulnerable immigrants seeking asylum.
It isn’t as if Trump doesn’t have access to this information. His own Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agency lists decades worth of information around this issue that proves that the “fake news media” is not just pulling numbers out of thin air the way Trump does. Trump tried to give some outrageous number in the thousands about terrorists being apprehended at the southern border; that was shot down by those records. He’s still trying to make up false narratives about drugs, human trafficking, and gangs despite those numbers; he’s simply ignoring them.
Twitter, however, is not ignoring the facts. Read some of their comments below:
