A new Axios report has the entire White House staff on high alert after it revealed that the president was upset with Mick Mulvaney, his new chief of staff. The president has had turmoil with nearly every person who has worked under him in the White House, and even Mulvaney has had his moments of uncertainty when it comes to the POTUS.
This report, however, paints a much more abusive picture of the Oval Office. According to Axios:
“President Trump chastised his new chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, over his handling of shutdown talks, creating an awkward scene in front of congressional leaders of both parties, according to two sources who were present.”
The alleged fray happened on January 4th, just after a meeting with Democrats over border wall funding to end the government shutdown. The president was apparently bullying Democrats for the 5.7 billion dollars he wants to build the wall, when Mulvaney intervened with a dose of logic that the president didn’t like one bit.
The article continued:
“Mulvaney inserted himself into the conversation and tried to negotiate a compromise sum of money, according to the sources in the room. Mulvaney said “that if Dems weren’t OK with $5.7 [billion] and the president wasn’t OK with $1.3 [the Democratic offer] … he was trying to say we should find a middle ground,” one of the sources said, paraphrasing Mulvaney’s remarks.”
That’s when, according to a source who was there, the president screamed. The source reveals, “Trump cut him off … ‘You just fucked it all up, Mick,'” the source recalled Trump saying. “It was kind of weird.”
The White House responded to the report, and while they would not deny that those words were spoken, the representative assured Axios that the president and Mick Mulvaney have a wonderful relationship.
