Every time Donald Trump tweets, he contradicts his earlier statements and distracts from growing controversies around him in the process. He’s not smart enough to conceal his motives and he doesn’t mind reversing his statements or throwing the country into turmoil to take the focus off how incompetent and shady he is.
When Trump first announced his decision to pull troops from Syria, he insisted that he was doing so because ISIS had been defeated, insisting that he had done that single-handedly. Now, suddenly, there’s a remaining ISIS caliphate that Trump managed to defeat, but they might rise again. Apparently, Trump has a plan in case that happens.
Of course, this is also the same man who ranted for years during the Obama presidency that a smaort leader wouldn’t announce his military strategies to the public. Now, Trump is telling ISIS on Twitter exactly where American troops will strike from should they reform. That ought to be handy information for them.
Trump’s tweets mention Russia in a group of three countries who have benefitted from U.S. presence in the region as a show of how tough he’s been Vladimir Putin amidst growing controversy over an FBI investigation into whether Trump has worked as an agent of Russia. It won’t work this time just as it didn’t when Trump said that Russia was opposed to him pulling out troops: Putin was asked about it the same day and he said that he approved and that U.S. troops had no legitimate right to interfere there, anyway.
Why now, after two years in office, is Trump implementing such an opposed plan? He’s doing it for the same reason he’s suddenly pushing the need for a border wall as a national emergency. Too many doubts about his ties to Russia and the end of the Mueller investigation are spurring his need to deflect and distract.
