Donald Trump sent his Vice President Mike Pence out to do his dirty work. POTUS wanted his mini-me to spread the word that ISIS was no more, and the president was pulling the 2,000 troops out of Syria. U.S. allies the Kurds could handle the situation. Never mind that ISIS tends to go to ground when American troops are around — most of the time. Pence’s message about the terrorist group could not have come at a worse time.
Maybe, the vice president was trying to con people into believing only what the president said, not their own eyes and ears. Regardless, a suicide bomber stood in the doorway of a very popular Syrian restaurant and killed 24 people, some of them U.S. service members. The number of Americans has not yet been determined.
Spokesperson for Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS tweeted:
‘U.S. service members were killed during an explosion while conducting a routine patrol in Syria today. We are still gathering information and will share additional details at a later time.’
CBS Evening News feed tweeted about the attack. Then, it noted that the vice president spoke to a Global Chiefs of Mission conference at the State Department hours later. He repeated Trump’s new mantra “the caliphate has crumbled and ISIS has been defeated:”
‘Just hours after a number of U.S. troops were killed in an ISIS-claimed attack, VP Mike Pence tells attendees at the Global Chiefs of Mission conference that “the caliphate has crumbled and ISIS has been defeated.”‘

Pence told them:
‘Thanks to the leadership of this commander in chief and the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces, we’re now actually able to begin to hand off the fight against ISIS in Syria to our coalition partners, and we are bringing out troops home.’
