Today has been a long one for the Trump camp, after Buzzfeed dropped a Mueller bombshell Thursday night. The story alleged that Mueller was told by Michael Cohen that he was directed to lie to congress by the president of the United States. Not only this, but the president’s two eldest children were also implicated in the story.
Friday night, Robert Mueller himself released the following statement, rebuking the Buzzfeed story, but giving no facts:
“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the special counsel’s office and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony is not accurate.”
The problem is this. Robert Mueller doesn’t rebuke the fact that Trump told Cohen to lie to congress. He simply implies that Buzzfeed got their “description” of what was said in the documents wrong.
Now, Buzzfeed has responded to Mueller’s statement with a statement of their own. It reads:
“We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he’s disputing.”
In response to the statement tonight from the Special Counsel's spokesman: We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he's disputing.
