Donald Trump does nothing out of the kindness of his heart, which is fully evidenced by his bragging on Twitter anytime he does something that every single president does and is praised for. After he insisted that ISIS had been defeated and had been hit “from all sides” into obliteration, ISIS is claiming responsibility for an attack on U.S. troops that left four service members dead.
After that phenomenal mistake, Trump now wants everyone to praise him for visiting their grieving families.
Trump’s decision to pull troops from Syria without consulting anyone on his cabinet was so stunning that his own Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigned in protest. NPR reported just a few weeks after the announcement:
‘When President Trump announced last month that he is ordering the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria, he said ISIS was defeated. Vice President Mike Pence repeated that claim today even as ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack in the northern Syrian town of Manbij. That explosion killed four Americans and at least a dozen others.’
No part of Trump’s tweet mentions what he’ll say to those families after ensuring them along with the rest of the American people that ISIS was no longer a threat. He’s likely to meet with resistance from those families, just as he has before when visiting grieving military families. Hopefully, he’ll at least remember this time not to tell them that their lost loved ones knew what they were getting themselves into.
