The morning after Trump’s non-offer to Democrats in exchange for reopening the government and allowing 800,000 American workers to be paid for their work, he did exactly what everyone expected: blamed Democrats for the shutdown because they didn’t jump at an offer he knew they’d never go for anyway.
The economy has done well so far under Trump, mostly thanks to the Obama bump after eight years of falling unemployment rates, but it’s not likely to continue to do so as long as 800,000 adults in the U.S. are unpaid and unable to put their paychecks back into the economy. Stock market rates are great, but Trump’s approval ratings show that Americans aren’t yet ready to trade their values for a good economy.
The greatest threat to our short-term survival (Trump) tried once again to convince Americans that the greatest threat to our long-term survival (climate change) is not that big of a deal. No matter how many times he’s laughed at for those nonsense statements, he persists with them. The differences between weather and climate are lost on Mr. Stable Genius.
It also doesn’t matter how many times Trump tries to use DACA recipients as political pawns, the Democrats are not falling for it. They don’t own the shutdown, didn’t begin the government shutdown, and aren’t going to let Trump pass the buck. Amnesty is what should be offered and lobbing the lives of these people back and forth like a political football only makes Trump look worse.
Twitter wasn’t pleased with the president’s morning Twitter rant, either. See some of their comments below:
