Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) started off her career in the House with a powerful punch, and has received quite a bit of criticism and praise by both Democrats and Republicans for her decision not to be silent on issues that matter.
On Sunday morning, Ocasio-Cortez responded to a Bloomberg tweet which said:
‘Yacht owners with priceless art need to beware of flying champagne corks.’
Attached was an article about yachts that double as floating art galleries.
Rep. Cortez didn’t waste much time before responding with:
‘People are using GoFundMe to beg for insulin while this is happening in the same time and place. It’s no wonder logical, compassionate ideas are called “radical” when the present is dystopian. We’re living in the upside-down, asking for the rightside-up.’
Ocasio-Cortez has become a champion for many in her new role – an advocate for the poor, the marginalized, the environment, and those without a voice. She has been criticized on both sides of the aisle with Republicans saying she is too radical for Washington while some Democrats feel that she is way too outspoken as a freshman in Washington.
Just a few days ago, Ocasio-Cortez was slammed by conservative “Fox & Friends” host Tomi Lahren, who said:
‘There’s a difference between being successful on Twitter and social media like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and being relatable on social media platforms, and actually being successful in real life.
‘But listen — the American people — we don’t want a handout. We want the government’s hand off. And we want the ability to achieve the American dream in a safe and secure nation. And this crop of Democrats offer none of those things.’
Here’s what Twitter had to say to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:
