President Barack Obama’s theme song was Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” and President Bill Clinton’s was Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow).” The most accurate theme song for Trump’s presidency is shaping up to be Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.”
On Wednesday, yet another Trump-appointed official resigned after a very short time on the job. Brock Long, who was Trump’s FEMA director, will join the likes of Gen. John Kelly, Gen. James Mattis, and countless others in less visible roles who have thrown in the towel under the presidency of Donald Trump.
The Washington Post reports that:
‘Less than two years into a tenure marked by five major hurricanes, multiple lethal wildfires and a tense relationship with his boss, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator William “Brock” Long resigned Wednesday “to go home to my family,” as he put it in an official statement released by the agency. Peter Gaynor, who has served as Long’s deputy, will assume acting administrator duties.’

Long’s boss is Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who opened an investigation into his use of government vehicles after Hurricane Florence hit North and South Carolina. Nielsen appeared to be pushing for Long to be out during those hurricanes thanks to the tension and questionable acts.
The Washington Post says that Long told his FEMA colleagues during that hurricane that he was ready to leave then. The announcement of his departure on Wednesday came as a surprise.

Long’s tenure was full of environmental emergencies, including five major hurricanes and a wildfire in California. It was FEMA’s response to two hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Irma and Maria, that earned him the most criticism.
‘He was plunged into crisis almost immediately, when Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas and dropped multiple feet of rain, flooding Houston and killing dozens of people. That was followed quickly by hurricanes Irma and Maria and controversy over the administration’s response to the latter’s devastation in Puerto Rico, which led to a death toll of nearly 3,000.’
