Donald Trump wants a memorial wall along the nation’s southern border so badly that he has created a fake emergency declaration. The other presidents have had libraries to commemorate them, but POTUS does not read. Maybe, that is why he is suddenly so hot to get the wall. Still, it is curious. Why did he not get it funded while he had a Republican Congress?
A reporter asked Minority Leader Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) that very question. It left McCarthy stumbling for an answer, and all he could come up with was a weak “times change:”
‘REPORTER: Mr Minority Leader, why wasn’t the southern border a crisis a couple months ago when Republicans were in [email protected] McCARTHY: “… Well, times change as it moves forward.”‘

The reporter asked why the situation along the southern border failed to become a “national emergency” until after the Republicans lost the House in the midterm elections. McCarthy paused for an awkward moment, then responded. He continued floundering about hitting upon drugs, human trafficking, experts, people arrested…:
When you get more reporting about the amount of drugs coming across, reports of the human trafficking and others, 60,000 people arrested each month, uhm… you have the experts telling you the challenge.’
It was not as if Trump had not been literally stumping for his wall for three-and-a-half years. His first speech after he floated down his Trump Tower escalator in 2015 called out Mexican immigrants, The Washington Post reported that the Republican presidential candidate said Mexicans were:
‘Bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists.’
