Michael Cohen, the president’s long-time personal attorney and fixer testified against him and provided evidence to back up his claims. Ironically, at the very same moment that Donald Trump was meeting with North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong Un, his fixer was testifying against him. Both men were making history, neither event looks good for the president, but Cohen’s is spellbinding.
During his opening statement, Cohen called Trump a “con man,” a “racist,” and a “cheat.” The fixer said he himself had lied and was going to prison for lying, but he was not a liar. He said he had done bad things for Mr. Trump, but he was not a bad man.
The president’s former attorney alleged that Trump knew in advance that the president’s decades-long friend, Roger Stone, was an informal adviser to the Trump presidential campaign. Cohen continued, saying that the Republican operative coordinated with Wikileaks the timing of a Democratic National Committee email dump during the 2016 presidential campaign.
As Cohen has provided testimony and evidence to the Democrats and Republicans on the House Oversight and Reform Committee, he said:
‘Mr. Trump knew of and directed the Trump Moscow negotiations throughout the campaign and lied about it. He lied about it because he never expected to win. He also lied about it because he stood to make hundreds of millions of dollars on the Moscow real estate project. And so I lied about it too.’
The president’s other attorneys reviewed Cohen’s testimony regarding the Moscow Tower negotiations before the formal Oversight committee.
