Championship winning teams often visit the White House to be congratulated by our president. Sadly for the past two years champs have been greeted by Donald Trump. Yesterday the winners of the Football Championship Subdivision, the North Dakota State University Bisons, visited the White House, and one player apparently doesn’t agree with Trump’s brand of politics. Offensive guard Jack Albrecht wore a Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) pin on his suit jacket. The pin features a red rose above a black hand and a white hand shaking.

Albrecht is a member of the Red River Valley chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, so obviously he would have much preferred to be meeting Bernie Sanders during his trip. If Bernie were president he probably wouldn’t have served the team fast food like Trump did yesterday.
A Facebook post from Albrecht’s Red River Valley chapter of the DSA said
‘Democratic socialism is for every worker on earth. You, me and 6-5, 275lb champion offensive linemen invited to the White House.’
Since Bernie Sander’s last presidential campaign in 2016, there’s been a lot more talk and publicity for Democratic Socialists. You have to look no further than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to see that’s true. The young Democratic Socialist from New York was able to unseat a very powerful Democrat during the primaries on the way to winning her House seat.
A lot of conservatives would have you believe that Democratic Socialists are like Socialists of old, but nothing could be further from the truth. Democratic Socialists just want all of us to have a fair shake in the world…there’s not a thing wrong with that…just ask Jack Albrecht.
