Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has already proven that if you take her lightly, she’ll make you pay for it dearly. AOC never backs down and is a bulldog when confronted. Take what happened today during the Oversight Committee hearing on Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census. Not only did she make the Republicans look like fools, but she also roasted them on Twitter after the meeting was done.
GOP challenged me in committee, betting on an assumption that I didn’t know what I was talking about.
Spoiler: I knew what I was talking about.
Keep believing the patronizing trope about “not smart, but her heart’s in the right place.”

During the hearing today the House Republicans used misogyny and condescension when challenging AOC on the law. Unfortunately for them AOC was extremely well prepared for their arguments. She cited sections and subsections of the law that proved that Trump’s administration was in violation when they included the citizenship question on the census forms. AOC proved they broke the law after Ross refused to consult with U.S. Census Bureau experts about the citizenship question. Instead he took advice from voter-suppression specialist Kris Kobach who is aligned with Donald Trump and AOC let him have it for that.
At one point during Ross’ testimony AOC banged her fist on the podium and asked
‘Why are we violating the law to include any question whatsoever in the 2020 census?’
She also argued that Ross had not met the congressional reporting requirements mandated by law, because the new citizenship question was materially different from the one that last appeared on the census, in 1950.
Today’s hearing proved that AOC and her staff are spot-on when preparing for her appearances during these hearings. In fact she sounded a lot like a lawyer today while making the Republicans look like fools. Check out what the Twitterverse thought of AOCs comments today.
