Donald Trump appears to feed off of the energy of his fans in his rally crowds. He has an uncanny ability to gin them up until many of them are at a fevered pitch. It is quite a show — until POTUS points toward the journalists’ box and shouts “enemy of the people.” The danger does not stop there.
All it takes is for one unstable individual to take the president seriously and act out. Then, people die.
A man wearing a red MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat and carrying a sword attacked a man outside of the popular adults-only Church of 8 Wheels roller rink in San Francisco, California. There was an altercation, and the victim ended up with a badly slashed hand, according to The San Francisco Gate.
San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca said that they were called to the scene where a stabbing had been reported. This was more than a stabbing.
The man wearing the red hat, which is a commonly recognized symbol of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, came up to the victim. The two began arguing. Then, the victim tried to grab the man’s MAGA hat.
That was when the attacker whipped out his sword and slashed the victim, the SFPD spokesperson said.
Witness Scott Sweeney, 24, explained that a man wearing the red Make America Great Again hat, which made him immediately recognizable as a Trump fan, and wielding a sword shouted homophobic slurs at him about half an hour before the attack. He said:
‘In my mind I didn’t think it was a real sword until we came out later and police were on the scene and there was blood and the hat on ground.’
Owner of the roller rink David Miles uses the name “Sk8father.” He converted the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church into the entertainment center. He was inside when the attack occurred, but he ran out to assist the victim:
‘I came outside. The guy was cut, he was bleeding like you wouldn’t believe. He was just gushing blood, so we got the first aid kit from inside and tried to stop the bleeding.’
The attacker lost his hat at the scene where it lay as evidence close to a pool of blood. It appeared that the wounded man took chase until he realized how badly he was bleeding. Miles said:
‘This is the last thing you think is going to happen. I’m very, very, very concerned. I don’t really know what to think.’
The paramedics arrived on the scene quickly to take the bleeding man to a medical center. Once there, he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The police asked Miles whether he had noticed a man dressed as a pirate in the roller rink, but he had not. The SFPD is still seeking the attacker who fled the scene after his attack. At the time, the victim was lying on the sidewalk and bleeding profusely.
The police department’s investigators have been scanning any security videos that might have caught the altercation and talking to witnesses.
