Jim Jordan Gets Loudly Laughed At During ‘Mueller Hearing’ & It Was Fantastic

This Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee met to consider a subpoena for the full final report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. The panel’s Democratic majority ended up authorizing the measure, but not before Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) could make a fool of himself, drawing literal mocking laughter from some of those in the room.

He had launched into a screed against the effort to procure the report, trying to paint the scandal as essentially a closed book that should be tossed into the past — but just to be clear, no one outside the top levels of the Justice Department has even seen any part of the final report yet.

Jordan ranted:

‘I would just ask the fundamental question — why are we here? It seems to me that we’re here because the Mueller report wasn’t what the Democrats thought it was going to be. In fact, it was just the opposite. What did the Attorney General tell us that the principal finding of Mr. Mueller’s report was? No new indictments, no sealed indictments, no collusion, no obstruction!’

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) followed that with a simple question, which he posed politely, asking first if Jordan would yield a moment of his allotted time.

The Democrat asked point-blank:

‘You made reference to the Mueller report. Have you seen it? Because we haven’t.’

Along with every other member of Congress, Jordan had not seen the Mueller report as of Wednesday afternoon, and laughter percolated throughout the room once Cicilline got Jordan to admit as much. He was almost shouting about a document that he hadn’t even read. The often contentious Congressman noted that he was basing his commentary only off Attorney General William Barr’s recap letter of the report, looking even a little flustered in the process before trickling out the rest of his rant.

Watch:

He went on to defend his conclusion that there’s no basis to allege obstruction of justice against the president, pointing to Barr’s contested addition to Mueller’s inconclusive findings that there’s no reason to charge Trump.

Besides his other errors, Jordan incorrectly asserted that Mueller found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, although in reality, the special counsel only concluded that there was no criminally prosecutable conspiracy.

Jordan specifically said that when the “forbidden fruit” of foreign help was placed in front of the Trump team multiple times, they declined the offer — despite the fact that Donald Trump Jr. jumped at the chance for dirt from Kremlin lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya covering Hillary Clinton, saying he “loved” the possibility. The Trump team’s out is that they bumbled the opportunity and didn’t garner actionable information from that meeting, not that they took the moral and legal high ground. The assertions from Jordan and others of “no collusion” misrepresent the truth at best and are outright lies at worst.

Jordan has gone on plenty of rants like his Wednesday meltdown before, even peppering them with lies too. For instance, he ripped into House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) for hosting former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen for questioning as the panel’s first witness of the new Congress considering his past lies — ignoring the fact that they’d hosted other testimony already this year and that Jordan’s pal Donald Trump has lied thousands and thousands of times since taking office.

Complete and laughable detachment from reality is just par for the course from the right these days, apparently!
