President Donald Trump continues to feel the heat from the Russia scandal and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s subsequent final report of his investigation into the matter. This weekend, despite Mueller’s team’s conclusions essentially in his favor, he took to Twitter to outlandishly rip into the investigators and the Congressional Democrats backing them up. In the process, he again indicated that he’s less keen on the Mueller report getting out than he originally let on, although it’s unclear what steps his team might or even can take at this point to stop it.
He ranted:
‘I have not read the Mueller Report yet, even though I have every right to do so. Only know the conclusions, and on the big one, No Collusion. Likewise, recommendations made to our great A.G. who found No Obstruction. 13 Angry Trump hating Dems (later brought to 18) given two years and $30 million, and they found No Collusion, No Obstruction. But the Democrats, no matter what we give them, will NEVER be satisfied. A total waste of time.’
Previously, Attorney General William Barr has claimed that Trump waived his right to use executive privilege to keep some portions of the Mueller report from getting out, although the president’s assertion that he hasn’t yet read the report suggests the possibility is still on the table. At least, Trump might want us to think that it is, in line with his plenty of past attempts at bullying the justice system. Barr’s team is preparing to release a redacted version of the report to Congress (and the public) possibly later this month, zeroing in on material including that protected by federal grand jury legislation for redaction.
As has been pointed out numerous times before, Robert Mueller himself has a history as a Republican, which really undercuts Trump’s whole shtick that the special counsel’s team operated as just a bunch of “Angry Trump hating Dems.” Investigators, in reality, operated under the weight of the mountains of material clearly warranting suspicion of the Trump team, which the president has consistently refused to acknowledge. His own son Donald Trump Jr. said he’d “love” dirt from the Kremlin on Hillary Clinton, and Trump still wants us to believe the whole thing was a witch hunt!
Investigators from Mueller’s team have reportedly been concerned that Barr’s original letter recapping their final report does not adequately summarize the findings, which they believe are more damaging to the president than so far publicly known.
