In the Trumpian equivalent of “I’m not racist, I have black friends,” the current president of the United States loves to retweet and promote the internet duo, Diamond and Silk. After all, they’re content to spread Trump’s talking points, praise him using his own lies, and embarrass themselves completely on Trump’s behalf.

On Saturday, Trump retweeted an old photo of himself with the two internet personalities and thanked them for their support. There were hundreds of thousands of tweets of the duo that were more recent since they went on Fox News Friday and claimed that climate change was just the result of the planet rotating too fast and insisted with absolutely no justification whatsoever that Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke talks “like a slave owner.”
Why did Trump not choose to retweet something more recent? Most likely, it’s because the duo is the perfect example of how idiotic Trump and his rabid fanbase really are, and that was on full display during their Friday interview on Fox News.
Repeating a favorite line of Trump’s that he has “done more for the black community” than any president in history, the two justify that statement the same way Trump does, with jobs numbers and unemployment rates. The Associated Press shows that this claim is just another spun lie by Trump and his followers.
During Obama’s time in office, black unemployment fell by 7.4 percent. Under Trump, it fell 1.2 percent before beginning to rise again. Using all other metrics, such as wage growth and home ownership for black Americans, there has been no change between the two administrations.
Diamond and Silk are nothing more than a Trump’s supporters justification for their own racist ideologies. As long as two black women who are collecting checks by praising Trump say that the president isn’t racist, Trump supporters feel justified while ignoring the millions of black Americans who disagree.
