Donald Trump, Jr. seems to serve his father’s administration as their representative on social media, spreading snark and attempted insults in dozens of tweets daily. The fact that he’s not very good at it doesn’t seem to bother Trump’s supporters, but his latest tweet is indicative of a much larger problem of corruption in the top levels of the U.S. government under Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr issued a jaw-dropping proclamation, telling Congress that there was spying by the Obama administration during the 2016 presidential campaigns. Never mind that this is demonstrably false according to assessments by the House Intelligence Committee, as Trumpsters aren’t going to believe that even with extensive documentation. They do believe that their current hero, Trump’s own appointed attorney general, is telling the truth because it exonerates their president and confirms their own pre-conceived notions.
Perhaps Junior and his Twitter followers missed the later part of Barr’s testimony, during which the Associated Press reports that he offered no evidence and walked back his statement.
‘He later said he wasn’t sure there had been improper surveillance but wanted to make sure proper procedures were followed.’
What Barr did when he asserted that he believes “spying occurred” in the investigation into Russia’s hacking of the U.S. presidential elections that resulted in Trump’s campaign team coming under fire is undermine any credibility he still had as attorney general. What Junior is doing by using it as a snarky Twitter point is hammering the final nail in the coffin of any expectation of a fair assessment by the current U.S. Department of Justice.
Twitter wasn’t impressed by Junior’s latest attempts to seem clever. Read some of their comments below:
