Secret Service tweeted Friday afternoon that a major incident was happening outside the White House, and it was a seriously crazy one.
The U.S. Secret Service Twitter account sent out this tweet reporting that agents were dealing with a major incident along the North Fence Line.
‘ALERT: Secret Service personnel are responding to a police/medical incident on Pennsylvania Ave. along the @WhiteHouse North Fence Line.’
They also shut down pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic in the area.
About 15 minutes later, they tweeted a description of the incident. Needless to say, it was a crazy one. A man set himself on fire.
‘UPDATE: A male subject operating an electronic wheelchair-type scooter lit his outer jacket on fire while sitting along Pennsylvania Ave. outside the North Fence Line. Uniformed Division Officers immediately responded, extinguished the fire and rendered first aid.’
They also added the injuries were not life-threatening, and the man had been taken to the hospital.
CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller posted a picture of the scene.
‘The @SecretService reports a police/medical incident on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the WH. USSS officers seen carrying an individual away from the WH and placing him on the ground in Lafayette Park. North grounds put in lockdown.’
It was not immediately clear if “President” Donald Trump was in the White House at the time.
Also, it was not clear if the man set himself on fire on purpose or accidentally.
