The investigation into Trump’s long and well-known financial scams are well underway, with his sister recently having retired from the federal judiciary to avoid further investigation into the Trump siblings’ tax dodging following the inheritance of their father’s millions.

The House Oversight Committee, following up on documents and other evidence provided by Trump’s former attorney and “fixer” Michael Cohen, plans to issue subpoenas to the Trump Organization’s accounting firm, Mazars USA, in order to see 10 years of Trump’s financial records. The firm has so far been non-compliant in requests for documents.

POLITICO reports:

‘In his memo, Cummings explained that the committee asked for the records as part of its efforts to corroborate allegations made by Trump’s former fixer and attorney Michael Cohen, who told lawmakers in February that Trump artificially inflated and deflated the value of his assets to his personal benefit.’

Meanwhile, Trump continues his two-year-long lie that he is unable to release his tax returns because he is under audit, despite statements from IRS officials saying that an audit does not prevent Trump from releasing his returns, nor is anyone under audit for two and a half years. Trump is hiding something, and House Dems are determined to find out what that is.

‘Cohen turned over three of Trump’s financial statements to the committee. Some of those statements were prepared by [accounting firm] Mazars. Cummings wrote in his memo that those documents “raise grave questions about whether the president has been accurate in his financial reporting.”’

Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) has had a rough time with compliance from all sources, and investigations are difficult when members of your own team are fighting you every step of the way. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a staunch supporter of Trump’s, has reportedly been encouraging sources not to comply with official requests.

‘Cummings asked members of the committee to “inform my office of their views and positions on this subpoena.”

‘The chairman also used his memo to criticize Jordan for his “troubling actions,” accusing the Trump ally of urging Mazars not to comply with Cummings’ request for documents.’

Jordan reacted to the news the way he always does, attacking the accusers instead of addressing the actual issue. He insisted once again that Cohen is a liar, which doesn’t really matter if documentation backs up his testimony.

‘This unprecedented action is based solely on the testimony of Michael Cohen, a convicted liar. It is now clear why Chairman Cummings refuses to keep his promise to hold Cohen accountable for his lies before our committee: Chairman Cummings will not let the truth get in the way of his obsession with attacking the president and the first family.’

Actually, Cummings is trying to get to the truth. There’s an easy way to put all of this to rest. Let the documents be subpoenaed and the truth be known.
