As Trump headed to Minnesota on Monday, protesters began gathering to protest his planned appearance after his recent comments directed at Minnesota’s Rep. Ilhan Omar.
According to CBS News, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) planned to hold an event to protest Trump’s appearance in Burnsville.
‘The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) announced that it would be holding a rally to “focus on supporting Rep. Omar and sharing common Minnesota values” outside the Nuss Truck and Equipment in Burnsville, Minnesota, where Mr. Trump is slated to participate in a roundtable discussion in recognition of Tax Day.’
One attendee of the event commented that Muslims living in America were all Americans.
‘We are all Americans, and we will be respected as such.’
On CAIR’s website, they called the rally #WeStandWithIlhan. Additionally, they explained the reasoning behind the rally:
‘The #WeStandWithIlhan rally is planned outside the Nuss Truck and Equipment in Burnsville beginning at 11:30 a.m. and was organized to support Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has seen a sharp increase in direct death threats to her life after President Donald Trump targeted her with a tweet taking her remarks at a CAIR banquet in California out of context and adding false video links to the 9/11 terror attacks.’
They noted the theme of the rally was “Love, Respect, Equality, Justice, and Democracy.”
Of course, there were counterprotesters who claimed Muslims were behind 9/11.
This has all stemmed from Trump’s recent tweet in which he shared a video of Omar making comments that many claims dismissed the significance of the 9/11 attack. The video also contained footage of the attack.

‘Far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen, and frankly, I’m tired of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.’
CBS News noted CAIR was actually founded during the 90s.
Since Trump posted the video, Omar has claimed she has received a large number of death threats. In response to this, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for Trump to remove the video from his Twitter account. However, Trump responded to those calls by insulting Pelosi.
‘Before Nancy, who has lost all control of Congress and is getting nothing done, decides to defend her leader, Rep. Omar, she should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements Omar has made. She is out of control, except for her control of Nancy!’
Omar recently apologized for comments she made that were perceived by some as anti-Semitic.
CAIR tweeted on Monday:
‘#CAIR: For the past three months, Americans have observed the process of drawing a target on a politician’s back. The politician is Representative Ilhan Omar, of Minnesota.
Although the rally is a great show of support for Omar, it’s hard to imagine it will do anything to change Trump’s mind. Remember, Trump is the guy who said thousands of Muslims cheered in New Jersey when the towers fell.
‘I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.’
He said this when he was a presidential candidate. He was fact-checked and his statement was proved false.
