Every year, parents bring their children to work with them on Take Your Kids to Work Day to teach them about the workplace and help to prepare them for the future. It’s a day in which children bond with their parents through an experience of what the often unseen part of their parents’ lives looks like.

Trump used it as a moment to give a speech to the children of White House staff and the press corps about drugs. Teaching children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is always a good thing, but it’s hard to imagine how much these children got from Trump’s rambling, nearly incoherent speech. It came in the middle of him bragging to the children about the service dogs they got to meet, telling them that the dogs have the best drug detection equipment in the world.
‘And while I have you: never take drugs, don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke. Enjoy your life, okay? No drugs, no alcohol, no smoke. You don’t need it. It causes a lot of problems. So just remember that, if you learn one thing. I didn’t come up here to say that, but I will. I say it all the time to my kids. I’ve said it from the time Ivanka was a little girl. Every day, I’d say, “Ivanka, no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking. Nothing.” And she’d say, “Dad, enough already,” I’d say it so much. So I’m saying it to you, because I mean it. I think your parents mean it. I know your parents mean it.’

Trump also didn’t manage to get through the speech without mentioning the fake news to the children of members of the press corps.
‘They report. They let you know how we’re doing. And oftentimes they report correctly. Actually, most of the time. Your parents all the time. All the time, or most of the time?’
When the children told Trump that their parents tell the truth all the time, Trump responded:
‘Alright, all the time. See, I agree. For purposes of this speech, I agree.’

Vice President Mike Pence and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took questions from the children earlier in the day. It marked the first questions Sanders has answered while standing at the podium in six weeks.
JUST IN: President Trump held an unusual press conference today, where kids of reporters asked the questions. It was National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day…and that included White House staff and national press.
