Trump’s Legal Fees Cost Over 8 Million Dollars & He’s Not Paying

During the 2016 presidential campaigns, Trump promised some of his rabid fanbase of supporters that he would be happy to pay their legal fees if they were to physically assault protesters at his rallies. Not only did Trump not keep that promise, as it turns out, it’s those supporters who are paying Trump’s legal fees instead.

The Trump administration has paid more than eight million dollars in legal fees to keep Trump out of trouble for his corrupt acts, acts that Trump was once sure meant that he was “f*cked” as president. The organization paying those legal fees is the RNC, which is funded by donations from billionaires and from Trump’s hapless supporters who think they’re making campaign donations to “make American great again.” Instead, they’re doing nothing but keeping Trump from the justice he deserves.

ABC News reports that:

‘Since President Donald Trump took office in 2017, his re-election campaign has spent more than $8 million in legal fees, according to ABC News’ analysis of campaign finance records through last month, with record-breaking quarterly expenditures doled out in the last three months of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential campaign.’

The Mueller investigation cost the RNC a whopping 1.7 million dollars in 2019 so far at the beginning of the political campaign season. Trump’s new archnemesis, Don McGahn, who it turns out gave a significant amount of damaging information about Trump the Mueller team, benefitted most from that expenditure.

‘Between January and March 2019 alone the Trump campaign spent nearly $1.7 million on legal expenses – more than $1.2 million of which went to former White House Counsel Donald McGahn’s firm, Jones Day, which has represented Trump and the Trump campaign since his first presidential campaign in 2015.’

The cost of Trump’s legal fees is unprecedented in recent years. Despite all of the GOP’s investigations into any scandal they could cling to when President Obama was in office, his legal fees came nowhere close to Trump’s. Not even George W. Bush, whose administration committed vile war crimes, spent as much to keep themselves from being held accountable for their crimes.

‘To put the Trump campaign’s more than $8 million in legal expenditures into perspective, former President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, over the same period of time, spent only about $2.7 million in legal fees, according to campaign finance reports.

‘Former President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign, for its part, spent only about $260,000 in legal fees in the first two years of his presidency, records show.’
