NY Governor Cuomo Responds To Trump’s Early Morning Tweets

This morning, just two days after a gunman attacked a synagogue full of people — injuring three people and killing one woman, Lori Kaye, who selflessly jumped between the gunman and the Rabbi — Donald Trump did something disgusting, even for him. He took to Twitter to proclaim his undying support for the National Rifle Association (NRA), stating he wants it to get back to “GREATNESS — FAST!!” He also accused NY Attorney General, Letitia James, and Governor Andrew Cuomo of trying to “destroy” what he calls “a very important organization” — you know — the one that supported the sale of a semi-automatic military-style weapon to the 19-year-old white terrorist who committed the horrific attack in San Diego Saturday morning.

I guess he thought that since he had called Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein that morning, which he also took to Twitter about, that made him free and clear to praise and support the NRA, but I digress…

The reason Trump is freaking out about the NRA and Gov. Cuomo, along with NY AG Letitia James, is because just last week the NY AG’s office issued a series of subpoenas to look into the NRA’s finances and especially their tax-exempt status.

As you might expect, that tweet above did not go over well, as thousands took to Twitter to respond. We compiled some of those reactions for you which you can read here.

And, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had a response of his own! In a statement posted on his official website, Cuomo wrote directly to Trump:

‘President Trump: Since December 2012 there have been 2,029 mass shootings in the United States. 74,600 Americans have died from gun violence since you were elected. You have done nothing but tweet about it.

‘The scourge of gun violence is a national crisis plaguing our country and killing our children. It demands action. And action, Mr. President, requires true leadership.

The last part is the best part:

‘The only thing illegal is the gun lobby’s insurance scheme. Unlike you, President Trump, New York is not afraid to stand up to the NRA. I will continue to fight for the children of this state. As for the NRA, we’ll remember them in our thoughts and prayers.’

We’re sure that Trump and his gun lobby will feel that sincerity, just like victims and their families do whenever Trump and his GOP politicians use the same “thoughts and prayers” in order to make everything better.

On Friday, Trump spoke to the NRA and vowed to protect the 2nd Amendment from the Democrats who want to take all of their guns (lies), which is a far cry from his former “vow” to the American people, when he said after the Parkland HS shooting that he would take action to help put a stop to gun violence. Funny how that works…
